      <image:title>Player Testimonials - Make it stand out</image:title>
<image:caption>What does Blue Collar/Old School Baseball mean to you? Old school baseball is an attitude that can be applied to everything you do both on and off the field. It's not making excuses when field conditions are bad. It's being prepared for that situation on the field that might only happen once all season. It's taking pride in doing the little things right, not because you should, but because that's who you are. It's playing the game with fire and emotion that comes from within, not showboating and performing, or trying to put others down. And most importantly, it's doing it all for your teammates, not for you. What should a freshman coming into the program expect? Freshmen should expect to do things that they aren't used to doing. From unorthodox warmups to drills you haven't seen before to doing your own field work, PHS baseball does some things differently from other programs, and ultimately, these differences set the program apart. Because it isn't just about baseball, it's also about the person you become. If you don't understand why you're doing something, Coach Diskin has a reason, and he'd be happy to explain. So ask, don't complain. If you put 100 percent of yourself into the program, you'll get that back tenfold. Additionally, not only are the coaches at Pembroke Hill the best baseball coaches I have ever had, but the best part about them is how much they care. They care about you and want you to succeed both in baseball and in the real world. That is something that is truly rare in today's baseball world and is incredibly valuable. What does a successful career consist of? Yes, a successful career means winning, both as a team and with individual stats and accolades, but there are far more important things as well. To me, success is leadership, being both the person and the player that your teammates look to as an example and for advice. Additionally, success is growth. You cannot decide where you start, but you can decide how much work you put in to get to where you want to be. Most importantly, success is effort. It's leaving it all on the field, at practice, or in the weight room. Because if you know that you did everything you could have possibly done to prepare and compete, then you can leave the field, win or lose, without regret.</image:caption>

<image:caption>What does Blue Collar/Old School Baseball mean to you? Old School Baseball means doing the little things and taking pride in them. That could be laying a bunt down, executing a pickoff, recognizing an infield-fly situation, or many more. Old School Baseball also means playing with respect, even when other teams may not be. Whether you kick ass with class, or show respect during a loss, the expectation is that you do it with the Old School mentality. What should a freshman coming into the program expect? More than anything, an incoming freshman should be ready to buy in. The coaching staff and your fellow teammates will be there to help you along the way but to truly take advantage of it you have to give 100%. What does a successful career consist of? The goal of Pembroke Hill Baseball is not only to win games, but to create well-rounded and hardworking individuals. A successful career in this program is most nearly defined as one with growth. That growth can be on or off the field, but a player with a successful career comes out of the program better than they entered.</image:caption>

<image:caption>What does Blue Collar/Old School Baseball mean to you? Old school baseball is taking pride in doing the little things like knowing the rules, hustling on the base paths, keeping base runners in check as a pitcher, and having the mentality that as a program we can compete with any team in the state. What should a freshman coming into the program expect? Incoming freshman should expect to come in with an open mind and should always be looking to get better, even if it’s as simple as playing catch to improve arm stamina or doing chicken walks at the beginning of practice. There will be times when you may be frustrated with yourself or even a coach, but there is no coach in the state who loves and knows as much about baseball as Coach Diskin, and I encourage incoming freshman to really trust the process. If you believe in yourself and baseball is important to you and you go above and beyond as a teammate, you will go far in high school baseball. What does a successful career consist of? It goes without saying that high school is not about how you start, it’s how you finish. While it sounds cliche, this was especially true for me as I did not play much on varsity until my senior year, but I took advantage of opportunities that were given to me and was determined to get better with each start. While my first start was incredibly rough, Coach Diskin still believed in me and I continued to improve with each start and finished the year with 2 complete games as a pitcher. If you are mentally strong and are able to quickly move on from a poor at-bat or even game and take advantage of opportunities that come your way, I would consider that a success.</image:caption>

<image:caption>What does Blue Collar/Old School Baseball mean to you? To me, Old school baseball is doing every little thing in practice to every little thing in the game. When the coaches aren't watching, you are still trying your hardest to improve in every way you can to help your team. It's always about how you are improving the team no matter what role you play. It's also about playing the game the right away. What should a freshman coming into the program expect? A freshman should be ready to be pushed to their limits in every way possible. There will be a lot of failures throughout your career, but it's about how you respond to the failure and keep pushing. Coach Disken and all the coaches around you are some of the best I have ever had, and no one cares about the game more than them. Don't be afraid to ask questions or for help if you don't understand something also. What does a successful career consist of? A successful career is improving in every way you can on and off the field. Every player will have different roles throughout their high school career, which are very important. You should come to the field every day trying your best at whatever role you need to fill. The 4 years you spend playing baseball will be some of the best years of your life, so make sure never to regret anything and always try your hardest.</image:caption>

<image:caption>What does Old School Baseball mean to you? Old School Baseball represents focusing on working together and having everybody play a role in a successful team. For example, I found it important that everybody helps out when cleaning up and repairing the field. I also believe that this means holding each other accountable and making sure to understand the basics before moving forward. What should a freshman coming into the program expect? A freshman coming into the program should have an open mind and a willingness to work and improve. I believe an open mindset also includes being alright with failure and being able to come back strong after not succeeding. I think a new player should not be scared to rely on teammates/upperclassmen for help in addition to the coaches. What does a successful career consist of? A successful career most definitely consists of player improvement and the overcoming of challenges. It isn't important where you start, all that matters is that one makes an effort to improve and be a better player and teammate. Sometimes success can also be helping others succeed, whether it be giving advice on how to improve their skills or simply bringing a positive attitude that can lift the spirits of others.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Player Testimonials - Make it stand out</image:title>
<image:caption>What does Old School Baseball mean to you? To me, Old School Baseball means doing all the little things correctly, even though they may be unnoticed by someone else watching. Players find success by being very fundamentally sound and not necessarily flashy. Old School Baseball also means being self-motivated to work hard and improve on weaknesses. What should a freshman coming into the program expect? A freshman should expect a great ride filled with ups and downs while being prepared to learn from both the highs and the lows. Most importantly, they should be open to learning new things from whatever comes their way and never be afraid of failure. What does a successful career consist of? A successful career consists of growth, both athletically as well as character growth. It should be a bridge for the players on their way to becoming young men ready for the real world.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Player Testimonials - Make it stand out</image:title>
<image:caption>What does Blue Collar/Old School Baseball mean to you? Blue Collar/Old School Baseball to me means that there is an immense sense of pride in doing the little things correctly. For example, it can be easy to have sloppy footwork and go through the motions while bunting or doing infield or outfield work. Yet to truly embody Blue Collar/Old School Baseball, players must buy in and practice the skill how it’s taught and not waste repetitions. What should a freshman coming into the program expect? As a freshman you should come into the program with open ears and the ability to be coachable. Practices are of extreme importance and shouldn’t be taken lightly because that’s where individuals and the team get better. Also, we do some things here a certain way and excuses don’t have a place in the program. If something is unclear, just ask the coaches and try to make adjustments so the same mistakes are not repeated. Lastly, the coaches want to see you be best player and more importantly person you can be. If they get on you it’s because they care about you! What does a successful career consist of? A successful career consists of being the best teammate you can be. Not matter the amount of playing time, supporting your teammates through the successes and failures that are within the game of baseball go a lot further than you might realize. Additionally, in a successful career, the needs of the team should be put before anything else. Everyone needs to know their role and should want to compete and come through for your others teammates regardless of the circumstances.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Player Testimonials - Make it stand out</image:title>
<image:caption>What does Old School Baseball mean to you? Old School Baseball is approaching the game fundamentally without doing extra to attain success. We enter every practice and game with the mentality that we could be better. Old School Baseball is about playing for the collective, and not for ourselves. What should a freshman coming into the program expect? Freshmen need to enter the program with a strong work ethic, listening skills, and a willingness to learn. Our style of play is based on doing the small things properly in order to generate easy outs and advance base runners any way possible. Some of the plays we run may seem odd, but the rationale behind them is logical and if you have any questions, the coaching staff is more than happy to explain. What does a successful career consist of? Giving it 100% every time you step on the field, engaging with your teammates and coaches, and having fun will lead to a successful career of Pembroke Baseball. The Pembroke Baseball program is unorthodox compared to other Pembroke sports in terms of culture and general mentality. This, however, creates stronger camaraderie and fosters a better love for the game.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Player Testimonials</image:title>
<image:caption>What does old school baseball mean to you? Old school baseball means working hard and truly giving it your all, no matter your talent level or spot on the roster. It may be a cliché, but it really doesn’t take any talent at all to give 100% effort. It also means taking the time to master all of the little things, even when they may seem small and unimportant. You do the little things a thousand times and may only need those skills once or twice a year, but it very well could be in the State Championship game so don’t take any part of practice lightly. What advice do you have to a newcomer to the program? My advice to any newcomers is to work hard and you’ll earn your playing time. The coaching staff is very fair, and they will give the spot to the best player, no matter if it’s a senior or a freshman, each player gets the same opportunities. Also, always remember that there is always another day, another game. Baseball is a tough sport, and the best way to put an 0-5 with 4 K’s day behind you is to focus on winning the next pitch, the next play, the next game. No matter how poor your performance in a game, your teammates will always be there to back you up, and you’ll do the same for them plenty of times. What does a successful career consist of? A successful career consists of playing every game like it’s your last and leaving a positive impact on not only your teammates but the whole baseball program as well. You don’t have to start every game and be all state to be a great teammate and have a successful career. Some of the best teammates I’ve ever had, played just a game or two on varsity. A successful career is when somebody embodies old school baseball wholeheartedly and buys into what the Pembroke Hill Baseball program is all about.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Player Testimonials</image:title>
<image:caption>Old School Baseball To me, old school baseball is putting one hundred percent effort into every repetition, and every practice. If a player practices for 2-3 hours every day and puts their all into those hours, they will inevitably get better. Old school baseball is also using and making the most of what you have available. Depending on where you live, baseball facilities can be few and far between, but if you use what you have available to you, such as a solid wall to throw a ball against to get ground ball reps, you can still get better without a field. Advice to Newcomers My advice to a newcomer to the program is to be consistent and maximize each practice. I was not even a decent baseball player coming into the program but I was consistent with the work I put in, and made sure to get as much out of each practice as possible, in or out of season, and I was able to improve. Practices last for a long time sometimes, and are especially grueling before games start but if you are able to improve by any amount every day, it will eventually add up and the effort will definitely have been worth it. Successful Career A successful career means putting everything you have into every part of the game. Focusing on every throw and refining your stride after every swing are great examples of things that successful players do to get them to where they want to be. Additionally, a successful career consists of being a good teammate. Baseball is a team sport and no matter how good an individual player is, if the team is not able to function as a unit, they cannot win. Teams with the closest bonds are the teams that play the best games and have the most successful players; in baseball individuals are not successful.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Player Testimonials</image:title>
<image:caption>Pembroke Hill Old School Baseball to me means setting an expectation for yourself to come into each and every day no matter practice or game and go 100% and focus on something to get better at. Coach Diskin helped instill that in me throughout my four years of playing for him by the way he coached us. He set the example of what it means to be old school, and it really has stayed with me even if I'm playing baseball or doing regular things. From practicing on the concrete to practing in wet grass from rain and being soaked after practices. It never mattered. The only thing that mattered was that we got our work in while most teams were doing nothing or just practicing in a gym at most. A freshman coming into the program should expect a great coaches. Coach Diskin and his dad have been nothing short of amazing. Their coaching style and their way of making everyone feel like they are important no matter how good they are. Coach Diskin was the best coach I have played for so far in my life, and I would not have as much of the success I have had if it wasn't for him. You have to expect to work hard and have to be accountable for what you do and make no excuses. Pembroke Hill may not win the most state championships, but this baseball program and Coach Diskin is the main reason why I stayed at Pembroke so that I could play for him. There are no better coaches in the area, and your kid is in perfect hands while playing under coach Diskin. A successful career to me means helping your other teammates and enjoying it. A successful career is making your teammates better and setting examples for your teammates. My last year at Pembroke was amazing. Played alongside players such as Tyler large and Ethan Berning who always asked questions and always wanted to get better. That to me is a successful career. Being able to help, set a good example for your teammates, and have fun while doing so is what a successful career is to me. I had everyone in my corner throughput my entire senior year. With all the scouts at the games and everything, the only reason I was able to stay myself and stay calm was because of my coaches and teammates.</image:caption>

<image:caption>1. To me, old school baseball means not only doing the little things correctly, but truly caring that the little things are done correctly. It’s one thing to hustle out a fly ball because you know it’s something you are supposed to do, but old school baseball is when you hustle out a fly ball because you know that if that baseball hits the ground taking second base can do great things for the team. There are plays of this nature in almost every game and many times, they have an impact on the games result. 2. A new player will gain everything from the program they wish to gain from it. There is an infinite amount of wisdom to be learned by playing baseball and this program provides all the tools to acquiring it. Yes it’s true you will learn to hit a rock a long way and pitch in an intelligent manner to confuse batters, but you’ll also learn elements from this game through the program that can be directly transferred to life. From picking up your teammates after good and bad plays to bouncing back from a crushing loss. In high school baseball there will be insurmountable comebacks and defeats that will leave you speechless. There are a lot to learn through these highs and lows. 3. A successful career is one that never ends. Yes the days of physically playing baseball will come to an end, but the skills learned on the field can certainly be evolved and applied throughout life. Baseball, the greatest game on earth, builds the foundation for carrying out the lessons learned on the field.</image:caption>

<image:caption>I think Old School Baseball means that you keep the old values of baseball in place. What I mean is the lessons that players learned back in the day can be used to educate the players now. The expectations are that if you are serious, then be totally committed to come to practice and work your butt off. While you do this, never forget to have fun. A successful career is driven by your love of what you do. If you wake up in the morning and don't want to go to work then that is not for you. But if you wake up and are energized and pumped to go to work then that is your calling and you will be the best at it. I think society puts a lot on young people these days. Things like; go to the best college, make the most money. What people forget is whether you want to be a trash collector, social worker, teacher, lawyer or a brain surgeon, be the best trash collector, social worker, teacher, lawyer or brain surgeon you can be. Just be happy and ALL in....no matter what it is.</image:caption>

<image:caption>To me Old School Baseball means doing things the right way, and having a true understanding of the game of baseball. It means focusing on making sure the little things are done just as well as anything else. Every new person coming into the program should expect to be pushed outside of their comfort zone everyday. Coach Diskin will get on you and challenge you when he knows you can do something better, but every player knows it is only because Coach loves every player and wants the best for them, not only on the field but off of it. As long as a player is giving their best effort, every coach on the coaching staff will do anything they can to help them succeed. To me, having a successful career is all about knowing your role and playing it as best as you can, and what you do for those who look up to you. I always wanted to make sure that I could be a positive role model for the younger guys, and make their transition into highschool sports as easy as possible. My contribution to the team rarely had anything to do with my play on the field, but more so to do with my energy and my ability to keep tensions low and team morale high.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Player Testimonials</image:title>
<image:caption>Before I started my Freshman season under coach Diskin, I didn’t really know how much I loved playing baseball. Sure, I had played nearly all my life, had all the fun in the world playing it, but the way Coach Diskin approached baseball was different than I had ever experienced. Coach Diskin’s philosophy, Old School Baseball, was not foreign to me, I had heard it used as a buzz-word during Royals broadcasts or by a little league coach. I knew it emphasized hard work and playing baseball “the right way,” but I’ve never been held to the standard that PHS baseball held me to. When we began the season with 6:00 AM practices in the gym followed by an afternoon practice and field work, I began to understand what it really meant. Old School Baseball represents working hard not only on your skills and your athleticism, but also on your will to do what’s best for your team, the people around you, and truly understanding why you do what you do on the Diamond. Through this work ethic, I realized how much I loved this game. While it was hard at first, all those hours I put in doing the routine baseball drills like hitting, fielding, and catching bullpens, I truly appreciate learning the nuances of baseball and understanding the beauty of game when it’s played the right way. Any new playing coming into Pembroke Baseball should expect to work hard, and have the most fun doing it. Sure, practices and early morning bullpens can be a grind, but you Coach Diskin and all the assistant coaches make you feel as if it doesn’t matter. Everyone in this program truly loves baseball, and that love is so contagious that you can’t help but have a good time and get exponentially better as a result. A successful career is not defined by how well you do as an individual or as a team, instead when you look back you must think that you did all you could to put yourself in the best position for success. Even though I didn’t win a state championship like me and my teammates strives for, I can look back on my time with this team and this program and happily say I have no regrets doing what I did because I know I worked hard to develop as a player, a person, and a leader.</image:caption>

<image:caption>To me old school baseball means doing all the little things right and worrying more about what you can do to help your team win than your own individual performance. At the end of a game you should be able to say you played with everything you had win or lose. New players to the program should expect to be pushed to be the best they can be. It doesn’t matter if you are the best or worst athlete on the field there will always be something you can do on or off the field that will help contribute to the team’s success. They should also always be ready for their opportunity when it comes to show how hard they work in practice because it will come, and if you give it your all the coaching staff at Pembroke has prepared you enough to succeed wherever and whenever they put you in the game. To me a successful career isn’t defined by stats or awards but by the positive impact you make on your team. If you play with everything you have and help other people around you become better player then you are succeeding. This can even be just playing as hard as you can so other people push themselves to do better. I was never a vocal leader, I always just let my game do the talking for me, and I knew if I played with everything I had and set an example for other players on the team they would do the same.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Old school baseball, to me, means finding a role that you can excel in. Not everyone can be the best player on the team, but everyone can add value. This program will allow you to find ways to contribute to the team, but it is your job to find what you do best and embrace it. A new player should come in expecting to improve everyday. No matter your age, you should expect to work hard daily. Younger players get the same amount of reps as anyone else, so there is no excuse for being unprepared no matter your age. A successful career can be measured by the relationships you develop on the team. The majority of Raider baseball players don’t move on to play at the next level, but the friendships you make through competing together last a lifetime. Some of my best friends for the rest of my life played with me, and you should expect the same.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Player Testimonials</image:title>
<image:caption>I see the term ‘old school’ as not so much a critique of how the game is played today, but as an alternative perspective to how spectators are often taught to observe baseball. Our sport is too often simplified as the performance of a few big hitters in the lineup, or hyped only for the performance of the sensational starting pitcher and the intense closer. Winning a baseball game, let alone functioning as a successful baseball team, is never the work of one or two people, and nowhere is this truth more visible than Pembroke Hill Baseball. High school baseball, especially with a team the size of Pembroke’s, requires utilizing every player on the roster. While no team will ever have an equal distribution of talent and experience, I always felt as if there was an equal need for each player to take the field at practice. Every Pembroke player knows that sometimes the best contribution they can make for the team is putting down a bunt, or moving positions for another peer. This kind of self-sacrifice is particularly notable considering today’s culture of elite and travelling youth teams, where boys can easily lose their focus on group unity. It’s this kind of small ball that requires a disciplined mindset to attain. So for Pembroke, ‘old school’ isn’t just a nostalgic throwback for days gone by. It’s an attitude, a state of mind, and an altogether different approach to the game. This is the tough part about starting high school, as with every big transition in life. It’s impossible to truly know what to expect as a freshman joining the baseball team. Someone who has played before doesn’t know how he will compare to his new teammates and opponents, some of whom are several years his senior, and someone new to the game in high school, as I was, may be unsure of just about everything. I couldn’t even figure out for the first two years of playing baseball whether the team would be better off with me as a player or manager. A new player should expect progressing to high school baseball a lot like going to high school itself. It will be hard, and you’ll go home most days pretty tired. There will be parts of it that will not be fun, and others that will be positive memories. Importantly, however, you are learning and improving all the way. The less knowledge with which you enter Pembroke baseball, the more you can receive in turn. Sometimes, when a scout shows up to one of your games, or you hear your friends talking about summer ball, it’s easy to think that playing high school baseball is just part of a natural progression, like the rest of high school. You go to high school in order to go to college, correct? Pembroke self-identifies as a prep school, after all. Does everyone on the baseball team then necessarily expect to play in college? Is that the ultimate goal? The answer could be given by a simple show of hands. If anyone actually surveyed the whole team on whether they intend to play baseball beyond high school, the results would be quite split. Some of your teammates live and breathe baseball; some may even be drafted. Others might be on the fence about playing in college, or not considering it at all. Pembroke Hill Baseball is a team where future professionals might play alongside future doctors and lawyers. It’s OK not to dedicate one’s life to baseball. Yet, clearly, if someone chose to meet the steep commitment of Pembroke baseball in addition to the mountains of academic work they already face, they have a reason. What, then, is there to gain from Pembroke Baseball? Especially in those dreary parts of the season when the team isn’t winning as much as it should or even before the season commences, baseball can seem to take more than it gives. Committing to this team takes time, effort, patience, and, at times, losing your pride. Only in the rearview does it become clear how the program truly forms young men: in learning to work as a team and in contributing to something greater than yourself. So ask yourself, what is it that you have to contribute to the team? Every team needs a solid pitcher to hold down the tough innings (and a few more on top of that) and good position players that know how to follow orders, yet are bright enough to think for themselves. Every team also needs someone raking the mound and counting the balls, someone keeping up spirits in the dugout and ferrying gloves and foul balls to and fro. Success comes from contributing what you can. If every player doesn’t work hard every day for the capacity in which they’re needed, the team cannot function well as a whole. But for he who identifies the need and meets it wholeheartedly, he can look back and state confidently that he found his place. Not everyone can say that about high school, and that alone is a great privilege of playing Pembroke baseball.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Old School baseball is about all the little things. It's about lining up properly for a relay throw and picking weeds on the warning track after practice. I don't recall Coach Diskin ever saying: "We need you to hit the ball farther" or "you need to throw harder." Rather when I think about the phrase "Old School Baseball," I think about doing the little things right, taking care of the field, being respectful of our opponents, not showboating and making the game about individuals, and playing hard. This holistic approach to teaching baseball, encapsulated in the phrase Old School Baseball, helps players grow as athletes, and more importantly, as people. Playing for Coach Diskin helped me mature as a player. I think more than anything the Diskins, and the various assistant coaches, helped me become a more focused and serious player. I also came away with a better understanding of how small, seemingly insignificant aspects contribute to the overall course of a game. Jeff also helped me understand that when a coach says "take the first pitch," you should probably take the first pitch.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Playing for Coach Diskin taught me a lot about baseball, but more importantly it taught me more about life. “Old School Baseball” is all about doing the little things right and how you respond to adversity. That’s a lot of what we deal with in life. Historically, teams at PHS don’t have a plethora of superstars, but rather a group of young men who have an excellent understanding of what it takes to win baseball games and how to execute that philosophy. Life and baseball are all about execution and doing things right, and Jeff made that abundantly clear from day 1. He didn’t care what age you were, your talent level, your background, etc., he treated and coached everyone the same intensity and involvement. He is a player development guru, plain and simple. He taught me how to master and own my craft behind the plate and I was able to take that knowledge and experience to college and continue to build on all of the baseball and life skills that Jeff instilled in me. While it seems ages ago, I will never forget wearing the Red and Blue and what it means to have grit and play Old School Baseball.</image:caption>

There are no shortcuts and it’s paying attention to the details and the little things that will help you be successful both on and off the field. When I think of old school baseball and being blue collar, it makes me think of just going out and competing day in and day out for everything. <image:title>Player Testimonials</image:title>
<image:caption>Blue Collar Baseball emphasizes doing little things right, never cutting a corner, and always giving extra effort. Many organizations talk about these principles, but Blue Collar Baseball is unique. What makes it unique is how deeply ingrained in the program these common teachings are. I am writing this more than six years after graduating from Pembroke, and two memories about Blue Collar Baseball stand out as demonstrating the character of the program. First, usually the worst part of a high school baseball complex is the visiting team's bullpen mound. Most programs do nothing, or next to nothing, to take care of it. Not so at Pembroke. Pembroke keeps the visiting team’s bullpen mound at Hager Field in perfect condition. Much effort goes into keeping it that way. I vividly remember fixing that mound with Coach Diskin one Saturday morning during the off-season. Coach Diskin and I measured the distance from the plate to the mound, and we found the pitching rubber was not exactly sixty-feet-six-inches from the plate, although it was very close. At Coach Diskin’s insistence, we dug up home plate and moved it to exactly where it needed to be so that the rubber would be precisely sixty-feet-six-inches from home plate. No Pembroke pitcher in my four years ever threw a pitch off that mound. But we were committed to doing little things right, never cutting a corner, and giving extra effort. Those values required us to take the time to do right by visiting pitchers. Second, in the dead of the winter of my sophomore year, a senior on the team texted me asking me if I would like to do batting practice. I said sure, and headed to the batting cages at Shawnee Mission East. I was not sure how it was going to work, though, because there was a considerable amount of snow on the ground. When I got to the batting cages, the senior was shoveling the batting cage. This memory stands out to me in part because shoveling a batting cage to practice baseball on a snowy day takes an extraordinary amount of effort. More than that, though, a senior reaching out to me as a sophomore to practice and then shoveling a batting cage to make it work has since stood out to me as an example of how upperclassmen should treat underclassmen. When I was an upperclassman, I tried to emulate his example and tried to pass on the tradition of upperclassmen treating underclassmen extremely well. I have no doubt that this tradition continues in Blue Collar Baseball.</image:caption>
